In line with his resolve to explore home-grown solutions towards the prevention and cure of coronavirus, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has said he will be donating his blood as sample for research.
Being a COVID-19 survivor, Makinde said the donation of his blood would help experts who are currently evaluating post-infection protection against coronavirus.
Makinde made this decision known, on Wednesday, on his verified social media handles.
âWe have been advocating local solutions to the COVID-19 pandemic in Oyo State.
âSo, as a COVID-19 survivor, I volunteered to donate my blood to be studied by our experts researching on the âEvaluation of Post Infection Protection Against SARS-COV-2 (COVID-19) in Nigeria,’â Makinde said.
After his recovery from COVID-19, Makinde had expressed conviction in capacity and intellect of Nigerians evolve local solutions to the virus, adding that the state will support such efforts.
He then said that since Nigerians always had their ways of dealing with flu, catarrh and cough, different from the Western world, the state would explore avenues to find a local cure for COVID-19.

On the 23rd of March, 2020, Gov. Seyi Makinde visited Agbami Isolation Centre at Jericho chest Hospital to inspect the facility. During the visit, he stated that since the identification of the Ekiti case on the 18th of March 2020, the Oyo State Government has ramped up its preparation for any possible outbreak of the pandemic. The Governor added that the State Government is collaborating with the College Of Medicine to set up two (2) Diagnostic centres at the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, which will begin operations by the end of the week after validation from Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
He made it known that as a result of the newly designated Isolation Centre at Olodo which can accommodate one hundred (100) Isolation bed, the five (5) already established isolation centres have been reduced to three (3) which are: Four-bed Isolation Centre at Ladoke Akintola Teaching Hospital, (LAUTECH) Ogbomosho. Ten-bed Isolation Centre at Jericho Chest Hospital, Ibadan. And four-bed Isolation Centre at University College Hospital, (UCH) Ibadan. The Governor added that the Emergency Operating Centres has commenced 24-hours operations.
âĶAs Suspected Case In Ibadan Tests Negative
Gov. Seyi Makinde held the first meeting with the Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force, on March 21, 2020. While addressing the public after the meeting, he stated that the meeting became necessary because of the heightened unrest in the last 72 hours in Oyo State due to the increase in the confirmed cases of Corona Virus in Nigeria since March 18, 2020. He affirmed that there is no confirmed case of Corona Virus in Oyo State even though the Commissioner for Health had put measures in place to prevent the outbreak by hosting press briefings on February 28 and March 19 respectively where he outlined the steps being taken on the creation of Isolation centres, Helplines, Disease Surveillance and Notification Officers (DSNOs) in the thirty-three Local Government Areas and thirty-five LCDAs. He reiterated the commitment of the government to prevent and control Corona Virus disease in Oyo State, while adding that the result of the suspected case has been confirmed negative through the test carried out.
