The Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery has debunked rumours of the alleged closure of its Kishi and Oyo satellite campuses, reassuring students, parents and other stakeholders that academic activities are ongoing seamlessly across both campuses.

The College also presented virtual learning gadgets to the two satellite campuses to sustain online classes and enhance teaching and learning.

Presenting the virtual learning gadgets to the Chairman of Irepo Local Government, Hon. Taoheed Olayiwola, on Monday at her office in Ibadan, the Provost of the College, Dr. Gbonjubola Owolabi, described the report as fake news deliberately circulated to mislead the public and create unnecessary panic within the College community.

Dr. Owolabi stated that the College had not issued any directive ordering the closure of its satellite campuses, stressing that the institution remains safe, fully operational, and committed to providing quality nursing education.

She noted that virtual classes have continued seamlessly to ensure students do not miss their academic activities and enjoy lectures taking place simultaneously across the three campuses  this will ensure resource sharing.

The Provost commended the Oyo State Government under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde for providing the necessary support to enable the College to sustain effective teaching and learning without disruption.

She urged the public to disregard the misleading reports, emphasizing that both the Oyo and Kishi satellite campuses remain in session, with lecturers carrying out their academic duties throughout the week.

According to a statement issued by the College management, “The attention of the College management has been drawn to false and malicious news circulating on social media about the supposed closure of the satellite campuses of the College.

“The Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery wishes to inform all stakeholders students, staff, parents, alumni, and the general public that the story is false and misleading. At no time have our campuses been closed, and the institution remains open for academic activities. We urge members of the public to rely only on official communication channels for accurate information regarding the College.”

The management reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and welfare of students and staff while urging members of the public to refrain from spreading unverified information capable of causing fear, confusion, and unnecessary anxiety.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Irepo Local Government, Hon. Taoheed Olayiwola, commended the management of the Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery, particularly the Provost, Dr. Gbonjubola Owolabi, for her proactive leadership and commitment to the development of the institution.

He noted that the virtual learning gadgets provided would significantly enhance teaching and learning at the Kishi satellite campus, describing the initiative as a timely intervention to strengthen academic activities.

Hon. Olayiwola also applauded Governor Seyi Makinde and the Deputy Governor, Barrister Abdulraheem ‘Bayo’ Lawal, for their unwavering support for the College, praying for God’s continued guidance and wisdom upon them. The Chief Executive Officer of First Health Dynamics Synergy International Limited and former Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Professor Temitope Alonge, on Thursday paid a working visit to the Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Eleyele, Ibadan.

During the visit, Professor Alonge inspected proposed project sites within the institution earmarked for the construction of a school hall, hostels, and additional classrooms aimed at enhancing teaching and learning facilities in the college.

He was received by the Provost of the College, Dr. Gbonjubola Owolabi; the Deputy Provost, Mrs. Iyabo Adeleke; the Librarian, Mr. Iseoluwa Adedokun; and the Director of Works, Engr. Akinbowale Olawoyin, alongside other principal officers of the institution.

Speaking during the inspection tour, Professor Alonge pledged his commitment towards the development and growth of the college, assuring the management of his continuous support in advancing infrastructural and academic development within the institution.

He also used the opportunity to congratulate the Provost, Dr. Gbonjubola Owolabi, on her recent elevation as a member of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) Governing Board, describing the appointment as well-deserved and a recognition of her dedication to the nursing profession and educational development.

In her response, the Provost, Dr. Gbonjubola Owolabi, appreciated Professor Alonge for the visit, noting that despite his tight schedule, he still found time to visit the college.

She also used the opportunity to appreciate the Governor of Oyo State for his unalloyed support towards the growth and development of the institution.

In a significant recognition of her professional expertise and contributions to nursing education, the Provost of the Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Dr. Gbonjubola Owolabi, has been appointed as a member of the Governing Board of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), the regulatory body responsible for nursing and midwifery education and practice in Nigeria.

The appointment, announced on Thursday in Abuja, is a testament to Dr. Owolabi’s outstanding contributions to the advancement of nursing education and professional development, as well as her commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery through quality training and capacity building.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony held on Wednesday at the College premises, Dr. Owolabi said the project forms part of the management’s ongoing efforts to provide a conducive learning environment and enhance the safety and comfort of students on campus.

She noted that the installation of the solar lights aligns with the Light-Up Oyo Initiative of the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, aimed at improving access to sustainable lighting across the State.

According to the Provost, the solar lighting project will significantly improve visibility within the College environment, particularly at night, while supporting teaching, learning, and other academic activities.

In a congratulatory message, Dr. Owolabi said the appointment of Dr. Fasina by the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, is a testament to her outstanding record of service, professionalism, dedication, and commitment to the growth of the State’s public service.

The Provost prayed for divine wisdom, strength, and good health for Dr. Fasina as she assumes the responsibilities of her new office and wished her a successful tenure marked by remarkable accomplishments.

She also reaffirmed the commitment of Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery to supporting policies and initiatives aimed at enhancing public service delivery and advancing the overall development of Oyo State.

The Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Eleyele, Ibadan, on Tuesday and Wednesday, hosted the Management Team of the Lagos State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Igando, Lagos, on a benchmarking visit aimed at understudying its administrative structure, academic programmes, and best practices in nursing education.

The visit was designed to foster collaboration, promote knowledge exchange, and encourage the adoption of effective management practices in nursing and midwifery education.

While receiving the delegation, the Provost of the Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Dr. Gbonjubola Owolabi, explained how the institution has continued to operate smoothly as a premier college of nursing in Nigeria.

She highlighted the various management strategies that have contributed to the college’s success across its activities and further took the visitors through its administrative structure and academic processes.

The Provost also provided detailed insights into the institution’s programmes, explaining how academic activities are effectively coordinated to maintain high standards in nursing and midwifery education.

The Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Eleyele Ibadan, on Wednesday, marked its 77th anniversary with a symbolic tree planting ceremony to signal the commencement of a new school hall project aimed at enhancing teaching and learning facilities in the institution.

Speaking at the event held at the college’s permanent site in Eleyele, the Provost, Dr. Gbonjubola Owolabi, described the anniversary as a significant milestone reflecting decades of excellence in nursing and midwifery education and the institution’s ongoing commitment to producing highly skilled healthcare professionals.

She appreciated God for His love and kindness over the years, noting that His hand has continually been evident in the affairs and activities of the institution.

She noted that the proposed school hall, when completed, would provide a conducive environment for academic activities, conferences, and other institutional engagements, adding that the project aligns with efforts to improve infrastructure and meet the growing needs of students and staff.

Dr. Gbonjubola further explained that the tree planting ceremony was symbolic, representing growth, sustainability, and the institution’s forward-looking vision as it continues to expand its facilities.

The provost appreciated the support of the Oyo State Governor, Engr ‘Seyi Makinde and other stakeholders for their contributions toward the development of the college, urging continued collaboration to sustain the institution’s legacy of excellence.

The Oyo State College of Nursing Sciences, Eleyele, Ibadan, has introduced clock-in devices in the College, to curb absenteeism and ensure that workers take their duties seriously.

The Provost of the College, Dr. Gbonjubola Owolabi said this at the college, while addressing staff members on Tuesday.

Owolabi observed that during some of her unannounced visits to departments, many workers were absent while some offices were not opened during work-hours.

According to her, the device would end absenteeism and indolence among workers.

The Provost said the College will install the same device at the other campuses in Kishi and Oyo town.

She said Gov. Seyi Makinde’s administration takes the education and healthcare sectors seriously and wants residents to have access to quality health services, through quality education.

“This is part of the reasons for the installation of the clock-in device in our school; it is to ensure that workers are at their duty posts to attend to their duties.”

She urged the Management team and Heads of departments to encourage staff members to pay keen attention to the clock-in device and ensure prompt attendance.
